Dmitry Medvedev meets with Prime Minister of Bulgaria Boyko Borissov

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the First Caspian Economic Forum.

Excerpts from the transcript:

Meeting with Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria Boyko Borissov

Dmitry Medvedev: Welcome, Mr Prime Minister. I am happy to meet with you during this forum here in Turkmenistan. I was in Bulgaria not long ago, in March of this year, and I believe we gave impetus to our cooperation then. The visit went well overall, I think.

Your visit here, to the Caspian region, is proof of what we have been talking about today: we can try to combine the Black Sea direction and the Caspian Sea direction if it is beneficial to our countries and peoples.

Let’s discuss this and some other issues.

Boyko Borissov (via interpreter): Thank you, Mr Prime Minister, for the opportunity to talk with you again. I am happy to be taking part in the First Caspian Economic Forum, and your presence guarantees that it will be a success. This region has vast potential. Bulgaria, our country, is located on the other side of the Black Sea and serves as an entrance to the European continent. We usually discuss gas distribution, but we need to consider that wider trade relations – in the railway, vehicle transport, and sea transport hubs that are located in our countries to the north of this region – also offer huge opportunities.
